Handthrown Stoneware Dumbeks w/ Goatskin Heads
This is one of my first at-home business ventures around 1995. I would really like to get a new wheel & kiln, and throw again!

I had a kick wheel, so the huge mass of stoneware was difficult to center. The dumbek is thrown in 2 pieces, a bowl without a bottom and a tapered cylinder. These are trimmed before joining, and when strong enough trimmed some more to reduce the shell thickness. Slip-molds would work well, and create very light shells. Too bad they are kind of fragile.
